PhD Scholarships Social Anthropology
Two PhD Scholarships in Social Anthropology
1. Dutch veterans' well-being, mental health and reintegration
2. Israeli veterans' well-being, mental health and reintegration
School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh
These two awards are for PhD studentships examining combat veterans' well-being, mental health and reintegration. These full-time, fixed-term positions are available for 4 years, from September 2014 to August 2018.
Each PhD candidate will undertake ethnographic fieldwork with either Dutch or Israeli combat veterans. The study will be part of a comparative, cross-national project funded by a European Research Council "starting grant" led by Professor Alexander Edmonds. Using an anthropological approach, the project examines soldiers' mental health, well-being and reintegration.
Award amount
· 4 year tuition fee waiver
· 4 year annual stipend of 16,000 GBP plus research expenses
Eligibility
We are looking for someone with an outstanding academic record who has done a Masters thesis or Honours thesis in medical or social anthropology (or related field) and has experience doing qualitative research. They must be fluent in Dutch and English, or in Hebrew and English. Knowledge of the military is desirable but not essential. Any nationality may apply.

· A cover letter of no more than 2 pages describing their research background and interest in the project
· A CV, including names of 3 referees

The deadline for submitting this application is June 9, 2014.
