ND-DC SERVICE OPPORTUNITY (5/10)
As May is the Hesburgh Month of Service for Notre Dame, we are planning a variety of fun volunteer opportunities for the Alumni Club of DC. Please lookout for additional postings throughout the month of April.
We are currently looking for a group of volunteers to work with a local Catholic school, San Miguel, that educates Latino boys living in poverty. San Miguel is an independent Catholic school affiliated with the De La Salle Christian Brothers. Similar to 50 other neighborhood schools across the country known as Nativity-Miguel schools, they are a middle school operating under an extended-day and year-round schedule; they focus on core academic subjects and offer a supportive, faith-based education to those most in need. Many of the boys go on to college prep high schools - the first in their families to do so!
Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks including cleaning/reorganizing the tutoring center, storage areas, and library with staff and a few students. There is limited space so if you are interested, please let us know right away!
Date: Saturday, May 10th
Time: 9:00 am- 2:00 pm (depending on when everything is done...probably earlier though)
Location: 7705 Georgia Ave, Washington, DC 20012
Pizza and drinks will be provided for lunch!
Email Katie Hughes at kmhughes5@gmail.com to secure a spot
ND CO-ED SOFTBALL LEAGUE
The 2014 Capital Alumni Network (CAN) Co-Ed Softball League season is now in full swing. Though we have a core group that has played for several years, we are always looking for new faces who like to play some ball and drink some beverages. Jimmy and I are both getting up there in years and life experiences, so fresh legs are always good to have on "diamond" aka the rocky patch of grass near the Washington Monument. If you have a glove, and/or like drinking beers mid-week, then you qualify! For more information please contact coach Jimmy Mandich '02/'03 MSA at jimmymandich@yahoo.com and Brandon Lenk '06 at brandonlenk@gmail.com. Go Irish!
