Re: [NSCoderNightDC] Did anyone win the WWDC 2014 lottery? Is anyone from MD/DC/VA going to WWDC 2014?

I got a WWDC ticket but I'll probably also be visiting AltConf and some of the other non-WWDC events.

p.s. We've also got our own local iOS conference coming up on August 1st here in the DC area: http://iosdevcampdc.com/

I'm going the show-cializing route, too (and, yes, Justin, I already signed up for the Mapbox event).

ND CO-ED SOFTBALL LEAGUE

The 2014 Capital Alumni Network (CAN) Co-Ed Softball League season is now in full swing. Though we have a core group that has played for several years, we are always looking for new faces who like to play some ball and drink some beverages. Jimmy and I are both getting up there in years and life experiences, so fresh legs are always good to have on "diamond" aka the rocky patch of grass near the Washington Monument. If you have a glove, and/or like drinking beers mid-week, then you qualify! For more information please contact coach Jimmy Mandich '02/'03 MSA at jimmymandich@yahoo.com and Brandon Lenk '06 at brandonlenk@gmail.com. Go Irish!

ND-DC BOWLING LEAGUE (Tuesdays, 6/24 - 7/29)

Better Off Bowling is a co-ed social bowling league for young alums/professionals that runs on Tuesday Evenings during the Summer. We're hoping to get 1-2 teams together (does not have to be all alums). Registration ends in early-June, and the league starts rolling June 24. As alums of Notre Dame, we get $10 off registration with the promo code: DCALUM213

Here's some more info:

  • What: Co-ed social bowling leagues with hundreds of young professionals.  It's a great way to hang out with old friends, and meet new ones, plus it has its own after-bowling sponsor bar.

  • Cost: $69 (with $10 off discount code) for 6 weeks of bowling - includes bowling, rental shoes and drink specials

  • Where: Lucky Strikes - Washington DC

  • When: Tuesday Evenings – June 24, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29

To register please visit: http://www.betteroffbowling.com/teams/3405-Fighting-Irish-Alum-Bowlers

ZACK WARFIELD '98 5K RUN / WALK (6/28)

The family of Zack Warfield '98 (a DC Domer) invites you to join in their 3rd annual 5K Run/Walk on June 28 in Arlington. The run benefits the Zack Warfield Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students from the Frederick community, Zack's hometown. Please click here for more information on how to join the runners: http://zack5k.com/find-a-run/  Even if you can't run/walk, you are welcome to purchase a t-shirt or make a donation to support the scholarship fund.

Join us Saturday as we volunteer at the Brides Against Breast Cancer charity bridal gown sale. We participated in this project last year, and it was such a fun event! They need a number of volunteers to run the sale, so we hope to see you there!

Interested in taking on a leadership role with DCYP? Opportunities are available to join the board or a committee. Elections will be held in June for the 2014 - 2015 year. See the special announcement below.

This charity event is part of a Nationwide Tour of Gowns traveling to roughly 120 cities per year with hundreds of beautiful wedding gowns for sale. Suggested attire: Please wear your DCYP Kiwanis t-shirt if you have one or a pink shirt. Jeans are fine as long as they don't have rips or holes. Also, remember to wear comfortable shoes. Contact dcyp.service@gmail.com with questions and to RSVP.

We'll be helping with the first volunteer shift of the day starting at 9 am and will help with set-up and to greet/orient visitors throughout the morning. After, we can enjoy the festival! For the Aquatic Gardens, exit the Deanwood Stop on the Orange Line, lower Polk Street Exit. Contact dcyp.service@gmail.com with questions and to RSVP.

[ND-DC-YA] ND-DC-YA Housing Newsletter

For any new housing requests, or to change, alter, or remove a listing, please email Jeff Gonzales at jeff.gonzales.m@gmail.com.

Looking for Temporary Housing

***Yiwei Shen, Notre Dame Class of 2015, is looking for a room/apartment to rent for 10 weeks from June 2nd to August 15th. I'm studying IT Management and Psychology and will be interning with Liquidity Services in downtown D.C. Proximity to a Metro would be wonderful! I'm working with a budget not exceeding $700-750 per month. I'm very organized and don't smoke. If you have a place to sublet for the summer, please feel free to contact me at yshen3@nd.edu. Thanks!***

*** Matt Arth, Notre Dame Law Class of 2015, is looking for an apartment to sublet from June 21st to August 29th, although I'm flexible on starting a sublet earlier and not staying through the end of August if a place is only available until the middle of August.  I'm 25, born and raised near Dallas/Fort Worth, went to undergrad at Fordham, worked at an advertising agency in NYC for a year, then headed to South Bend to pursue commercial law.  I'll be interning with the USTDA's Office of General Counsel in Arlington, so proximity to a Metro station (preferably Blue/Orange line) would be great.  I'm very neat and organized, and my mother tells me I'm easy to get along with.  Also, I have no pets (sadly) and I don't smoke.  Please feel free to reach out if you have a place or a room that you're looking to sublet and I'm sure we can work something out.  Arth.Matthew@me.com.  Thanks!***

***Connor Roth, Notre Dame Class of 2015, is looking for a room or apartment to sublet from May 30th to August 3rd. I am studying Economics and Constitutional Studies and will be at GWU doing research for the summer. A location near campus or the orange/blue metro lines is preferable. Working with a budget of $700-750 per month. Please contact me atcroth1@nd.edu -- thanks!***

***Samuel Leung, Notre Dame Class of 2015, is looking for a room to rent or apartment to rent for 12 weeks in the summer. I am happy to live with a roommate as well. I am a chemical engineer from Granger, IN and I will be interning at MPR in Alexandria, VA this summer. I'm looking to spend no more than $2,500 for the summer. I do not require too much space, but I do need something furnished and ideally either close to a subway station or in Alexandria. I do not smoke or have pets, but I am open to a place with pets. I am very organized and respectful of other people's space as well. If you know of any available rooms or have any suggestions or references, please email me at sleung@nd.edu Thanks!***

***Christina Gutierrez, Notre Dame Class of 2015, is looking for a room or apartment to sublet for June and July (and if possible, the first week in August). I am happy to live with a roommate, and have also already been in touch with other ND undergrads who might be interested in rooming with me as well (if you have more than one room available). I am a Political Science and Romance Languages (French and Italian) double major and I will be interning this summer at Catholic Charities, working on Food and Agricultural Policy. I love to cook, bake, and do yoga, and I do not smoke and or have pets, but would be fine in a home with pets. I'm looking to spend no more than $2,300-$2,800 for the entire summer on housing. Please contact me at cgutier6@nd.edu if you'd like to talk about details! Thanks so much!***

I don't need a lot of space or amenities, but I do need something furnished and near an orange line station. Any references, suggestions or other help would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at tomswanson5@gmail.com Thanks!***
