This Thursday DCYP will officially kick-off the new year with our first member meeting of 2015. After the meeting, everyone is invited to walk over to Banana Cafe as we toast to our new members. If you have questions or to RSVP, email dcyp.president@gmail.com.

Save the date for our next happy hour in Columbia Heights on February 12! We are also going to be taking our February social to the Kennedy Center for a free stand-up comedy show by acclaimed comic, Hari Kondabol on February 27.

Finally, we'd like to recognize the following members who are having their "anniversary" with the club in January: Sean Alcorn, Dustin Benoit, Haben Ghebremeschel, Ashley Newby, Jenna Nubar, and Mackenzie Thiessen. Thanks so much for your membership and dedication to DCYP!

Ashley

Upcoming Events

DCYP Meeting and New Member Meet & Greet

Kick off the New Year and reconnect with DCYP at the January meeting and new member meet & greet! If your New Year's Resolutions include volunteering more often and saving more money, this meeting is for you! First, we'll give you the scoop on upcoming events and service projects, including ways you can get more involved. Have an idea for a new project or a fun social event? Input is more than welcome! Guest speaker and fellow Kiwanian Christopher Franklin will join us to share financial planning advice and savings strategies for young professionals. We'll also (in)formally recognize and welcome our newest members into the DCYP family!  After the meeting, we'll walk across the street to Banana Cafe around 7:30pm for the new member meet and greet.

New to DCYP and not a member yet? Now is the perfect time to join! We'd love to raise a toast to you at the New Member Meet & Greet following the meeting. Learn more and RSVP by contacting Amanda at dcyp.president@gmail.com

Now that the weather is getting colder, let's take advantage of some fun winter activities! Join us at the ice skating rink at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden - a long time favorite DC ice skating destination!
We'll meet at 6:45 so we can go grab our skates and tickets. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! Pricing and location details can be found below:

When: Sunday, January 25, (10:30am - 1:30pm)
Metro: Columbia Heights (

Let's start the New Year off right and support one of our most beloved local organizations, Loaves & Fishes. DCYP Kiwanis has volunteered with this group for the past 5 years and we have always had an amazing time! The project is from 10:30am-1:30pm. The project coordinators are very prompt -- they start and end right on time. Our responsibilities will include: 1) Finalizing the meal, 2) Dishing food onto plates, 3) Serving and 4) Cleanup (dishes, tables, chairs, etc). Loaves and Fishes operates out of the kitchen in St. Stephen's and the Incarnation Episcopal Church at the intersection of 16th and Newton Streets, NW. It is only about a 7 minute walk from the Columbia Heights metro to the church. More information on Loaves & Fishes can be found here. Please email dcyp.service@gmail.com to RSVP and if you have questions.

Special Announcement:

Street Sense Forum on Mental Health and Homelessness
Tuesday, January 27, 6:30-8:30PM

Join Street Sense January 27th for their latest forum and networking event, focused on Mental Health and Homelessness.

Each day, 1,800 DC residents are experiencing chronic homelessness. About 40% of those experiencing chronic homelessness and 30% of DC families experiencing homelessness also suffer from a serious mental disorder. Providing supportive housing is a necessary, effective, and economical way to treat serious mental disorders among these individuals and families.

RSVP here- http://ssmh.eventbrite.com. This event is free and open to the public (and will include light refreshments!).
