#5. We have the LaCie 1Tb Thunderbolt drive, and it's fast as hell.

Good afternoon smart folks ---I have a question related to managing a large photo database, the app choice and how to manage that with a new Mac Book Pro.My wife has an old Core 2 Duo 13" MBP with a 1TB HD in it. She's outgrown the computer and we'd like to replace it with a new 15" MBP. The rub is, she's got about 40,000 photos in the iPhoto database that consumes about 340GB. I'd prefer not to sell my children to buy the fully tricked out 15" MBP to house the ever growing iPhoto database. Further iPhoto feels like it's at its breaking point with this DB and another solution is in order (the DB frequently needs to be rebuilt). For the photo management solution we have three choices:1) iPhoto2) wait for Photos (this winter maybe)3) LightroomFor storage, there are several choices:1) local storage (1TB SSD in the MBP)2) a cloud service (which one?)3) a personal cloud (Western Digital's myCloud looks interesting)4) a service liker Flickr5) an external USB drive that my wife carries around with her.I'm *sure* I'm not the only person with this problem and I would like to hear from you guys about your thoughts about these options/choices and whatever else is out there.I'm leaning toward the Lightroom + myCloud solution and would love to hear from anybody with experience with either or both products.Looking forward to hearing your ideas.Thanks.-Rob
