| Happy Friday! Join us tonight for Margaritas at Mission in Dupont! Also, this Saturday volunteer with DCYP and other local Kiwanis clubs at the Boys & Girls Club Back 2 School Carnival. See more details below. There are still spots available for the Superstorm Sandy Relief Trip to NJ! The deadline to sign-up is this Friday, September 12. We will depart DC Friday evening September 19, and Saturday we will be tasked with a clean-up assignment. Sunday we will enjoy a little R&R at the shore before driving back. Learn more and register here. Finally, as a reminder it's time to renew your club dues! Dues payments for the 2014-15 Kiwanis year are due no later than September 20 and will keep your membership current through the end of September 2015. Click here to pay dues online via PayPal. DCYP will join fellow Kiwanis clubs from across our region for this Back to School Carnival at the Boys and Girls Club. This event includes a free barbecue and carnival games with school supplies as the prizes for the children and families served by the Boys &Girls Club. Volunteers are needed to help set up, clean up, register guests and volunteers, serve burgers and hot dogs, run the carnival game stations, and hand out prizes. We DCYP Kiwanians like to stay healthy-- but we also enjoy a good milkshake! Join us for a double dose of fitness and flavor with an after-work hike through the stunning wetlands of Roosevelt Island followed by burgers and milkshakes at Georgetown's Good Stuff Eatery (Michelle Melt with a Toasted Marshmallo 'Shake, anyone?). We'll meet in the Roosevelt Island parking lot at the entrance to the bridge. Nearest metro stop is Rosslyn. For this unique project, we'll head to a farm in the DC area where we'll glean (harvest) surplus produce that would otherwise be left to waste in the fields. This will provide literally tons of free, fresh and nutritious food to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) which serves those in need in our local area. Carpools will be arranged. When you RSVP, please indicate the metro station nearest to you! Closer to the date of the event we will learn which farm we will be gleaning at. Superstorm Sandy Relief Trip to New Jersey
Where: Visitation Relief Center (725 Mantaloking Rd., Brick, NJ)
When: Friday, Sept. 19 - Sunday, Sept. 21
DCYP Kiwanis invites you to a unique end-of-summer service project! We're recruiting a dream team of 13 volunteers to help with Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts in Brick Town, NJ. Flooring, dry-walling and gardening will be among the ways we help this Jersey Shore community's restoration. Liberty Lutheran and the Visitation Relief Center will match us with a work site as well as basic overnight accommodations at the church. We'll depart from DC on Friday evening; serve at our project site all day Saturday; and enjoy a little R&R at the shore on Sunday before driving back. Space is limited. Learn more and register here. Health Homelessness. The event is presented by Street Sense and will take place Monday, September 22nd 6:30pm-8:30pm at 702 8th St. NW (Pepco Edison Place Gallery, 1 block from Gallery Place Metro).
