This year we will be working with Easter Seals, and the event will take place Saturday, October 18 9:30am - 1:45pm. We are looking for volunteers interested in assisting with the planning of this fun event. Roosevelt Island Hike & Good Stuff Eatery Where: Roosevelt Island (Parking Lot: George Washington Memorial Parkway Arlington) When: Tuesday, September 30, 6-8pm Metro: Rosslyn (Blue / Orange) We DCYP Kiwanians like to stay healthy-- but we also enjoy a good milkshake! Join us for a double dose of fitness and flavor with an after-work hike through the stunning wetlands of Roosevelt Island followed by burgers and milkshakes at Georgetown's Good Stuff Eatery (Michelle Melt with a Toasted Marshmallo 'Shake, anyone?). We'll meet in the Roosevelt Island parking lot at the entrance to the bridge. Nearest metro stop is Rosslyn. Bus options include the 38B from Farragut Square and the Dupont-Rosslyn Circulator. http://www.nps.gov/this/planyourvisit/directions.htm Farming for the Arlington Food Assistance Center Where: TBD When: Saturday, October 11, 8:30am-12pm Metro: Carpool details TBD For this unique project, we'll head to a farm in the DC area where we'll glean (harvest) surplus produce that would otherwise be left to waste in the fields. This will provide literally tons of free, fresh and nutritious food to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) which serves those in need in our local area. Carpools will be arranged. When you RSVP, please indicate the metro station nearest to you! Closer to the date of the event we will learn which farm we will be gleaning at. Halloween Carnival with the Easter Seals *NEW* Where: Easter Seals (1420 Spring Street Silver Spring, MD) When: Saturday, October 18, 9:30am-1:45pm Metro: Silver Spring (Red) Our Annual Halloween Carnival will serve Children of the Easter Seals Respite program. Many of these children are disabled or are children of Wounded Warriors. DCYP Volunteers will run carnival activity stations, hand out candy & prizes, and help children decorate pumpkins and create arts and crafts. Each child that comes to the carnival will get paired up with an experienced Easter Seals volunteer in addition to a DCYP Kiwanis volunteer. We invite you to join us in making this a special, fun-filled Halloween for the kids and their families! Costumes are highly encouraged!! Volunteers are asked to arrive by 9:30 AM. Their expected lifespan is 50 years. Join us for a Forum & Networking event, the first in a two-part series on Health Homelessness. The event is presented by Street Sense and will take place Monday, September 22nd 6:30pm-8:30pm at 702 8th St. NW (Pepco Edison Place Gallery, 1 block from Gallery Place Metro).
