Neighbors,
I hope that you're all having a great week!
KEY MEETING: The Mayor's budget meeting for Ward 6 is Thursday 4/25, 6:30 pm at Logan School (215 G Street NE). This is a great opportunity to thank the Mayor for including $50 million for NoMa parks, and also to ask about any other issues that you are insterested in. Most agency heads will be there as well, so you can ask directly about particular projects and priorities like school modernizations, alley repairs, etc. See http://budget.dc.gov for the full proposed FY2014 budget.
Development
* Douglas Development has started restoration of the historic Uline Arena/Washington Colliseum at 3rd & M NE. They will be coming to the next ANC planning & zoning meeting on 4/3 and full meeting on 4/10 to share their plans. The ANC previously supported their historic preservation plans.
* Edens (owner of Union Kitchen) and Sang Oh Choi (owner of Sam Wang produce and many buildings in the wholesale market) are partnering on the northwest corner of 4th & Florida NE. This project will bring 24,000 SF of retail below 200 apartments or hotel rooms. They will likely be at the next ANC meeting to share their plans, and are hoping to break ground by early 2014.
* NPR has now moved into their new headquarters at 1111 North Capitol Street, between L & Pierce. They are broadcasting shows from here, and are planning to have a public open house sometime soon.
* Lots of new retail is on the way in the next few months - Giant is opening up 5/1, Walmart 11/1. TD Burger Bar is expecting to open this summer, a new farmers market/beer garden at 3rd & L opens this Spring, and Constitution Square (the Harris Teeter development) is about to announce at least 3 new retailers coming in along M & N Streets.

If you have friends and family who live in other wards, then please encourage them to email their Councilmembers as well. It's important, for example, for Jack Evans of Ward 2 to understand that many of his constituents visit NoMa Summer Screen or for Yvette Alexander of Ward 7 to realize that many children in her area attend Two Rivers PCS. (See http://dccouncil.us/council for a list of all Councilmembers and their email addresses).
Please also don't foget to be POSITIVE in your emails to these Councilmbmers, and thank them for their past support! The DC Council has provided considerable support to our neighborhood over the past few years - including the new Metro station, Harris Teeter, streetcar, affordable housing & more. Adding parks to this underserved and fast growing neighborhood will help all residents and visitors - current and future. The full $50 million requested by Mayor Gray will allow for a network of parks for multiple users throughout the neighborhood.
