Hello neighbors!
I hope everyone has had a great summer. As always, there are a lot of exciting events and news here in NoMa & Near Northeast, including the first annual "Taste of H" benefiting JO Wilson Elementary School. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Tony Goodman

Union Market (5th & Neal) opens its doors this Saturday September 8th! Hours will be Fridays 11-8, and Saturdays/Sundays 8-8 until November, when they will expand to six days per week. There will be coffee, oysters, ice cream, and more! www.unionmarketdc.com
--------------------------------
On Sunday September 9th from 1-4, Union Market will be hosting the second annual "Summer Scoop," a free ice cream tasting and competition. During the Fall, they will be hosting many other events as well. This is a very exciting place, and the developer - Edens - will be coming to an upcoming ANC meeting to share more of their plans.
--------------------------------
CHNNA will have its next general meeting on Saturday, September 8th from 10-11 at Pilgrim Baptist Church (7th & I NE). Stop by before or after your trip to Union Market! On Saturday, October 13th CHNNA will also be hosting its second annual community yard sale from 8:30-12:30 in the 300 block of M Street NE.
--------------------------------
NoMa is hosting a public open house to discuss their proposed Public Realm Plan, and take feedback from neighbors on the multiple proposed parks for our area. This will be held at 1100 First Street NE on Wednesday September 12th from 5:30-9pm. They have posted some details on their web site at: http://www.nomabid.org/resource-library/
--------------------------------
Next Thursday, September 13th is the next ANC 6C meeting. The meeting will be held at 7pm at the Heritage Foundation at 2nd and Mass NE (usual place & time, but on a Thursday instead of a Wednesday). The full agenda will be posted soon at www.anc6c.org. So far, there are many items which affect our neighborhood:
1) Developers for *both* sides of the 600 block of H NE will provide updates on their plans for mixed-use residential & retail buildings. Insight controls the North side of the block, and Jair Lynch owns the South side. Between the two projects, there will likely be over 500 apartments, a gym, CVS, and more.
2) JBG will be presenting their streetscape plan for a new Hyatt Place hotel scheduled to break ground soon at 33 New York Avenue NE in NoMa.
3) 1005 North Capitol NE is seeking zoning variances to build a new 120 unit, affordable apartment building. Many of the new buildings in NoMa are not required to include any affordable units, so this will be a welcome addition.
And... the big one on our agenda:
4) Douglas Development is seeking an extension on their zoning approval for the Uline Arena. Two years ago, when they sought their last extension, the ANC required that they install bollards & planters to prevent parking on the sidewalk, and that they fill in the gaping holes in the side of the building. For this extension, I have met with their team, and have asked that they remove the graffiti on the roof, fix the leak in the wall at the West side, and make additional landscaping improvements. They have agreed to these conditions, and we should see these changes very soon.
--------------------------------
Finally, JO Wilson is planning its first annual "Taste of H," a fundraiser & auction held at the Atlas Theater, on Sunday October 14th starting at 6 pm. Tickets are $30, and are available now at www.tasteofh.org. I just bought my tickets, and I hope to see many of you there too! --
