Hi WAPA members,

For anyone interested in food and food systems, I am organizing a panel for the SfAA conference in Denver on youth and food justice programs.  If you are interested in participating or know someone who would be good to have on the panel, please let me know at the email below.  Thank you.

Here is the session abstract:

Working with Youth to Grow a More Just Food System
Research on food justice and related topics – including food security, access, farmworker rights, health disparities, and sustainable land use – has continued to explore new and innovative ways to empower communities and create a more equitable food system.  Youth, particularly teenagers, are an important demographic in the food justice movement; however, the social capital and potential of youth as agents of change are often overlooked.  This panel will present research involving youth and food justice and discuss ways of involving youth in research and activism to build a more just food system.

Re: [NSCoderNightDC] Please remain calm

Based on statistical analysis of historic reminder email send times, I have calculated, with a probability of 99.5%, that this email did not come from our fearless leader, Jose Vasquez.

Tonight, we figure out who has taken him, why they're impersonating him, and prepare for what will be the most important rescue mission of our lives: Operation Strawberry Napoleon.

Many of you have not seen one of these in quite a while, so there might be some confusion as to what this is all about. I will try to keep it simple an clear. You see, this is what we call a reminder. It is a message which ideally precedes a meeting and serves as an announcement to it. In this particular case, the meeting we refer to, is called NSCoder Night DC. The purpose of this meeting is to congregate software developers (both novice and experienced) to discuss issues at hand and to work in each other's company. The meeting has been held every tuesday night at 7:00pm for the last 4 year (and 11 months as of today.) While the location changed a bit during the early days, it has now been established in Bethesda MD for more than four years now. To be more precise, the meeting has been held at the La Madeleine establishment. (The directions in our original announcement are still valid: http://greenmango.org/2008/06/17/meeting-in-bethesda-tonite/)

I apologize for any confusion this early reminder may have cause, I hope 8 hours in advance is not too far out to plan for.

Jose

PS While the facts stated in this statement are all true to the best of my knowledge, the serious tone of it is utter crap. react accordingly.

Our large town home is located a short walk from the Courthouse and Clarendon metros, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, restaurants, shopping in downtown Clarendon and is a short drive to St. Agnes. The townhouse is only a few years old and is gorgeous! There are four floors three and a half bathrooms, a large kitchen with granite counter tops, washer and dryer, pool and concierge that receives packages and provides 24-hour maintenance. The open room is the master suite and is the entire second floor. It has a large walk-in closet and a very spacious bathroom (two sinks, separate washroom, granite countertops, large Jacuzzi tub and separate walk-in shower). We like to entertain and are very easy going. The rent for the master suite is $1,850.00 ($925/person if shared) a month plus approximately $80/person/month for cleaning and utilities (we all pitch in on a cleaning service), and $85-$100 for underground parking (parking is optional but street parking is limited and first come first served). The room is officially available on the 27th of August but possibly as early as the first of August. Please contact Meg Miller at miller.meg9@gmail.com.

Re: [NSCoderNightDC] Searching for Sample Code: JavaScript <-> Cocoa

I wasn't there either. To add to what Steven said, if you don't want
to write code below are two libraries that implement the idea. I've
tinkered with them both a little, but don't have either in any
production code at the moment:

Re: [NSCoderNightDC] Searching for Sample Code: JavaScript <-> Cocoa

I wasn't there, so I don't have what you are looking for, but what I can tell you is that there is no magic. It's only really two methods:

In objective-c land, you can call:

UIWebView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:

and listen for events like with your delegate:

webView:shouldStartLoadWithRequest:navigationType:

from javascript land you can call:

document.location.href = "myspecialprotocol://whateveraction"

When you see the custom protocol, perform whatever logic and return false.

[NSCoderNightDC] Searching for Sample Code: JavaScript <-> Cocoa

Hi,

Sorry if this is too far off-topic.

I used to live in Arlington, VA, from early 2007 through early 2009.
During that time I attended a couple for the first NSCoderNightDC events
and for some reason am still on this list. :-)

In the spring of 2008 (I believe) the DC/NOVA CocoaHeads group was just
getting started and the meetings were being held at some start-up out
along the Dulles Toll Rd IIRC. Anyway, at one of those meetings (I'm
thinking it was around June 2008) someone did a great presentation on
interaction between JavaScript and Cocoa. They had a Cocoa app with a
WebView. There was a slider in the app with a text field showing the
slider value, and the same on the web page loaded in the webView. And the
values of the two sliders were bound together. So when the slider on the
web page was moved it updated the slider in the native Cocoa part of that
app. (I may be mis-remembering slightly, but this was the gist of the
idea.)

I have been searching my old files to try to find that sample code that
was presented and I haven't have any luck. And when searching on-line I
haven't found anything too similar. (Must be using the wrong search
terms.) And even most the links to Apple docs that I seem to turn up and
dead and redirect to the top level doc pages were I can't seem to find
anything about this type of capability.

Does anyone have a copy of the sample code that was presented at that
CocoaHeads meeting back in 2008? Or know who the presenter was? Or at
least know what the proper terms are to search on to find the equivalent
modern documentation for this type of thing?

Any responses are much appreciated. Thanks!

[tfctoastmasters:425] Sept. 19 TFC Toastmasters Meeting Agenda‏‏‏

Hello Toastmasters,
The agenda for tonight's meeting is attached.  Please note that we still need a timer and grammarian/ah-counter to fill-in.  E-mail me offline or we'll double-up roles this evening.

Our meeting begins at 6:45pm and is located at the AED building at 1875 Connecticut Avenue. Please try to arrive by 6:40pm to ensure that we start and end on time. If you have a role and are running late, please be sure to text me at 202-821-8074 so we can plan accordingly.

AED is located approximately 3 blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro (red line), North exit on the right. You can also take the 42 Bus heading north from Metro Center. If you need to park, there are normally metered spots in front of AED on Connecticut available, as well as some spots on T Street.  AED has two entrances (1825 & 1875) and we need to enter through the 1875 entrance. The doors will be locked, so we will meet in the lobby before the meeting.  If you come after the start of the meeting, the building guard will let you inside. Please give the guard your name and he or she will let you up to the meeting on the 12th Floor at the American Public Power Association's main conference room.

Cheers,
Tanya DeRivi
