[anc6c04] August @ Northwest One Library

NW1 Library friends + neighbors, Beat the heat and gear up for school with Northwest One Library this August! Load up on books, dvds, cds, and more….or just stop by for the wifi and AC. We've got story times, game nights, crafts, movie nights, book club, and more – there is something for everyone. Check out the attached fliers and dclibrary.org/northwest for the full schedule. Have the little ones stop by with completed Summer Reading booklets to collect their prizes. Head to dclibrary.org/summerreading for more information on this year's Dream Big and Own the Night programs. One special upcoming event is Mission: Preservation - Investigate! Be a Conservator! on Wednesday August 22nd at 3pm for youth ages 8 – 11. The program is made possible through a partnership with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. Two special announcements regarding book review contests: 1) The Library of Congress and DC Public Library present "A Book That Shaped Me," a writing contest for rising 5th and 6th graders. Participants will write a short essay on a book that has had a personal impact on their lives. After writing a one-page essay, they will submit it in person to the Northwest One Neighborhood Library by Friday, August 17th. Prizes will be awarded to winners at each library location and to three overall grand prize winners. Library winners will each receive a $50 gift card and then advance to the Grand Prize level judging. The top three Grand Prize winners will be selected by a panel assembled by the Library of Congress, and will win a gift card of $200. Library winners and Grand Prize winners will be honored during a presentation at the 2012 Library of Congress National Book Festival on the Mall, which takes place September 22-23, 2012. That is a big deal! 2) The annual Teen Summer Reading Book Review Contest for youth ages 12 to 19 goes until August 24th so get those entries in!
