Cook Mother's Day Dinner at Children's Inn Where: Children's Inn, 7 West Drive, Bethesda, MD, 20814 When: Sunday, May 8, 5:00 - 8:30 PM Join us as we prepare a Mother's Day dinner and craft for children and parents residing at The Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This event is limited to a total of 12 volunteers, so please sign up in advance. The Children's Inn at the NIH is a residential "place like home" for sick children and their families. Children come from across the country and around the world to stay together with their families in The Inn's healing environment while receiving groundbreaking medical treatments at the NIH, the world's leading biomedical research center. While the NIH takes care of the child's medical needs, The Inn tends to the child's heart, soul and spirit. To sign up, please email dcyp.service@gmail.com.
Volunteer at Taste of Arlington When: Sunday, May 15, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Where: Ballston Common Mall, Wilson Blvd & N Taylor / N Randolph St., Arlington, VA, 22203 Taste of Arlington, Arlington's largest street festival, features over 50 local restaurants, music, entertainment for kids, a dog park, and beer and wine tents for patrons to enjoy. DCYP will be volunteering at the festival on behalf of the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), which gets a $50 donation for every volunteer. Duties may include helping with registration, pouring beer and wine, running carnival games for kids, assisting with the restaurant booths, etc. Our group's specific duties and the time of our shift will be announced closer to the date of the event. Volunteers will receive an awesome volunteer t-shirt, refreshments and snacks during our shift, and a booklet of 10 free taste tickets to use at the festival. See you there! Volunteer at Croquet Day (NEW!) When: Saturday, June 4, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Where: Hensley Park, 4200 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria, VA 22303 Croquet Day is a tournament-style competition for individuals and families that benefits SCAN, an organization that provides advocacy and support for children and families in Northern Virginia. This event helps raise vital funds for SCAN's child abuse and neglect prevention programs. The tournament should attract roughly 200 participants and spectators. Types of volunteer work for the event include: food tents, registration, score keeper, activity tent, photography, etc. Our group's specific role and the time of our shift will be determined closer to the date of the event.
