[tfctoastmasters:599] Fwd: IMPORTANT: Area 31 Contest - Monday, March 30th

Some additional information regarding the Area Contest. . .

Hello all! Just two caveats:

With each speech you get a 30 sec grace period so wrap up as quickly as you can at the red light at 3 min 31 sec and 7min 31sec you will be DQ'd.

With the international speech, you have to have given AT LEAST speeches 1-6 in your CC manual. All other contest end at the District level; International speech goes all the way up the "World Championship of Public Speaking."

Anyone, even the newest toastmaster, can enter the evaluation contest.

I look forward to seeing you on Monday, and it is my goal to have all clubs represented at the area contest.

Thanks!

Talk For Change Toastmasters:  very excited to inform you that on Monday, March 30th, Area 31 will be holding an Area Contest.  The address and times are listed below, and registration starts at 7:00 p.m.  There is no entrance fee, and there are two separate speaking opportunities, which include an Evaluation Speech Contest and an International Speech Contest (see details below).  We are looking for any volunteers who would like to compete in either of the two contests, and please know that this is open to all TFC Members.  This is your chance to try to speak in front of a larger audience, and to experience what it feels like to be a part of an area contest.  If you have any questions, or would like more information, you can email me and/or Nona Florence, who is copied on this email, or you can also call me directly at 917-855-9163.  Thank you, Omer Ipekci

1)  The Evaluation Speech Contest will be you providing an evaluation of someone else's speech - yes, you will be judged on your ability to provide an Evaluation of someone else - no preparation is needed for this, and on Monday evening, after you have listened to the speech, and provide your Evaluation of the speech, you will be expected to speak for at least 2 minutes, but not more than 3 minutes.

2)  The International Speech Contest will be a speech on any topic (though usually a motivational and/or inspirational speech is the type of speech that is selected as a winner to move forward to the District Conference), and this speech will be at least 5 minutes, but not more than 7 minutes.  In order to participate in this speech, you will need to have prepared a motivational/inspirational speech beforehand.

Timex Men's T499059J Expedition Field Chronograph Watch

Very attractive, Great price, Every day look and durable..

It's not too heavy and the band is very comfortable and easy to take off. The band doesn't 'catch' and get super stiff like most watches and undoing it is super easy. It's hard to explain in person but once you try to put and take off this watch you'll notice how easy it is.

Join us this Saturday on the National Mall for the Blossom Kite Festival. Bring a snack, and we will plan to have a picnic as we enjoy the afternoon. The plan is to meet on the Castle side of the Smithsonian Metro Station at 12pm. If you're going to be late, no problem. Please just be sure to RSVP so we know to text you our exact location.

Also, remember that early bird tickets are now available for our much-anticipated Annual DCYP Evening at the Gallery! This year's reception, celebrating our decade of service, is taking place at NOMA's hip new Gallery NK on Saturday, April 18. Purchase your tickets online now ($40) or at any DCYP event for $35.

Upcoming Events

Blossom Kite Festival
Where: Washington Monument Grounds (Constitution Ave & 17th St NW)
When: Saturday, March 28, (12:00 - 3:00pm)
Metro: Smithsonian (Orange / Blue)
Let's celebrate the turn of the seasons at the Blossom Kite Festival, part of DC's Cherry Blossom Festival activities! The Blossom Kite Festival soars into spring and kicks off the kite flying season with five areas to explore and enjoy: the Competition & Demonstration Field, Family Field, Kite Club Display Area, Activity Tents, and Public Field. See the creativity of kite makers and skill of kite fliers from across the US and internationally through competitions and demonstrations – including the popular Hot Tricks Showdown and the Rokkaku Battle! Open kite flying is welcome on the Public Field.

UPDATE: We're planning to have a picnic for everyone who attends, so please bring something to snack on that you can share with the group. Since the mall can get pretty packed for the event, we'll plan to meet at the metro (Smithsonian, on the side near the "castle") around noon and then head over to find a spot together. If anyone wants to meet us later, that's totally fine! Please RSVP by emailing Carly at dcyp.social@gmail.com so we can send you a text with our location once we find a spot.

Our club is celebrating its 10 year anniversary at our Evening at the Gallery event in April, so we will be celebrating with a special trivia challenge during this happy hour and taking a look back at notable events from the past decade. Bring your thinking cap (if you can fit it on top of your spiked, blonde-tipped hair), share your excitement on your AIM Buddy Profile, and get ready for a great time! You'll also get a chance to pick up reduced-price tickets ($35) for our annual DCYP Evening at the Gallery, as well as details on upcoming service projects. When you arrive at Hill Country, just ask the host for DCYP Kiwanis and look for the red balloon!
