ND ALUMNI SOCCER TEAM 2013

Dear Irish Alums,The ND Alumni Soccer season is here, and we're looking for new players to join us on the pitch this year.  All skill levels are welcome, as we try to play competitively (I mean, we are the "Fighting" Irish), but the most important thing is everyone plays a lot and has a great time kicking the ball around with their fellow alums.

Games are on Sundays from now through June at McKinley Technology High School (T Street NE, Washington, DC).  If you are interested, please e-mail Michael Osysko (michael.e.osysko@gmail.com) right away, so he can add you to the roster before the game this upcoming Sunday.  We have a good core of returning players, but have had some people move over the past year and are in need of some new players, especially females (we could always use more males too, so don't let that deter you in the least, as like I said, everyone gets plenty of p-time). Hope to see you on the field! GO IRISH!

ND ALUMNI SOFTBALL 2013

Lads and Lasses.  The 2013 Capital Alumni Network (CAN) Co-Ed Softball League season is just about to begin.  No seriously, the first game is next Friday, April 19th and our second is April 25th.  Though we have a great core group that has played for several years, we are always looking for new faces who like to play some ball and drink some beverages.  If you have a glove, and/or like drinking beers mid-week, then you qualify!  Boom.  Just like that.  For more information please contact coach Jimmy Mandich '02/'03 MSA at jimmymandich@yahoo.com or Brandon Lenk '06/'07 Arkie (stupid Jimmy with his dual year degrees, I could walk twice too ya know!) at brandonlenk@gmail.com.  Or both of us just to be safe.  Go Irish!

[NSCoderNightDC] App ID Prefix Change

I'm getting ready to submit an update to an app and I'd like to start using the same App ID Prefix across all my apps. It appears I have about 20 in my provisioning screen for some reason and honestly, I'm not even sure which ones I'm currently using with my 2 in-store apps.

I'm a bit concerned about what impact changing the app id prefix would have. Will this cause a second copy of my app to be installed on the device of an existing user? Will there be 2 of my app installed? I had this happen on my test device…

Any guidance on the impacts of changing the app id prefix would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Jon

[ND-DC-YA] ND-DC-YA Housing Newsletter

YAs -
Attention all interns looking for summer housing! Catholic U offers dorm housing for summer interns in the DC area, and it's close to the red line. More information can be found at their website: http://conferences.cua.edu/summer/index.cfm.
If you can help any of our students/alums who have urgent housing needs, please let us know! For any new housing requests, or to change, alter, or remove a listing, please email the moderator, Katherine Malkovsky, at kmalkovs@gmail.com

Looking for Short-Term Opportunity

· (URGENT) (NEW) My name is Amy McDill and I am a rising Junior from Notre Dame. I have an internship with the American Society for International Law this summer and am looking for housing in a safe environment. I can pay between $500 and $1100 per month and am looking for somewhere to live for the months of June and July. However, I am able to shift the dates a little if necessary. I can be contacted at amcdill@nd.edu or (951) 796-7155.

· (URGENT) (NEW) My name is Connor and I am an upcoming junior at Notre Dame. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio, live in Duncan Hall, and am studying Economics and Political Science. This summer I will be interning at the Cato Institute and am hoping to find a safe, relatively close sublease or apartment to rent. I will be staying in DC between June 2nd or 3rd (internship starts the 4th) and will leave on August 17th. I am hoping to find something at or below $1000/month but would consider something if it were $1100 or $1200 per month. Also, I am hoping that I could find somewhere that I could get a pro-rate, so I do not have to pay for the entire month of August, since I'll only be there for half the month. Contact croth1@nd.edu for more information. Thank you so much for your help!

· (URGENT) (NEW) I just finished my second year at Notre Dame Law School and have an internship in D.C. during June and July. l would like a 1 bedroom furnished apartment and would rather not go the Craigslist route. I'll be living alone, so I'm primarily concerned with safety, but a neighborhood with a young adult population is a plus. Any information, contact Sabina at sdanek@nd.edu

· (URGENT) (NEW) I'm beginning an internship in Alexandria, VA shortly after graduation, and I am still searching for housing. I'm looking for a place for June and July, preferably in Crystal City or Pentagon City (or at least near a blue or yellow line station), for under $800/month. Contact Tom at tomswanson5@gmail.com if interested.

· (URGENT) Christina Senger (sophomore) has a DC internship from 7/1/13 to 8/1/13. She is trying to find a place to live in close proximity to the Senate Bldg, either walking or by metro. Price range really depends if just a room or apt. Please reach out if you can help! Her contact is: Christina.senger@gmail.com or 918-230-5161

· My name is John Vernon and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Notre Dame (Class of 2014).  This summer I will be working at a 10 week summer internship in Washington, D.C.  I am interesting in finding a suitable and affordable living situation close to Capital Hill or Foggy Bottom with accessibility to the Metro. The Career Center and some of my fellow students suggested contacting the ND Alumni Club to see if anyone would be willing to rent out a room or a basement apartment in their home.  I will be there during the weekdays, but go home to Annapolis to see my parents on weekends (Fridays - Sunday night/Monday morning). I have a stipend and would be able to pay weekly for room and board for the entire time I will be working. Contact jvernon@nd.edu if you can help!

Available Short-Term Opportunity

· Looking for either a sublet with flexible move in at the end of May-June 30, or for a 13 month commitment to the house. This space (4410 Volta Pl NW) includes a bedroom, living room, kitchenette equipped with microwave/sink/large refrigerator, and full bathroom, as well as 2 closets, ample shelving, and easy access to the laundry room (same floor). This lower level of the house will be your space, and you will be able to access the stove/oven upstairs as well as the living room/porch on the first floor. The house is shared with 3 roommates, 2 female/1 male, who work/go to school around the Georgetown area and range in age from 23-28. Their rooms/spaces are on the upper levels of the house. An off-street parking space is also available. The rent is $1000.00 from June 1-July (this is a sub-let), then you are welcome to sign a 12 month lease. Please note that the rent may increase for the following year. Or, if you'd like a temporary 1 month sub-let, that can be arranged as well with a permanent tenant to follow. This house is located in Foxhall, and is about a 7-8 minute walk to Georgetown, very close to the medical school and hospital. Photos of the space available on request. Unsure of the square footage, but it's a very large amount of space for the cost given the area of DC! Please feel free to email me at caroline.mary.green@gmail.com if you are interested and I will provide more information/answer any questions you may have. Thank you!

· Jennifer has a housing opportunity available starting June 20th if anyone is looking for housing for the summer (or from June through next year).  It's a condo in Rosslyn right near the Rosslyn metro (about a 5 minute walk).  Rent would be $1100/month plus utilities.  There's a gym, pool, and convenience store in the condo as well.  Let me know if anyone's interested!  They can contact me by phone at 440-409-9399 or by email at jjesse3@alumni.nd.edu.

· ND alum looking for one person to sublet her half of a shared studio for the summer (mid-may/early June - mid-August but negotiable).  Half a mile north of the Van Ness metro on the red line. Fully furnished. $800/month, recently renovated, fitness center, pool, shared laundry. Roommate is an easygoing young professional and would prefer another female. Would have to be ok with living with a friendly cat. Email katherine.pietrucha@gmail.com for more info.

· Two ND alums have a room opening in their apartment from the beginning of June to the middle of August.  We are currently law students at Georgetown and one of our roommates will be gone for the summer.  The price is $1000/mo, but we would prorate it for the months that you are not staying the entire time.  The apartment is in the Chinatown area. Please contact Patrick at pquine@gmail.com for more details.

· 2 bed, 1 bath furnished rowhouse in NE DC, $1900 a month.  Five min walk to the H street night life and 15 min walk to Noma metro, with numerous buses stop a block away. House is two stories, has a private back patio with table and grill as well as a front porch and garden. Kitchen recently renovated and all utilities included. Looking to sublease between mid May to mid August. Anyone interested can contact kara.whalen@gmail.com directly.

· (NEW) My name is Kelly McRaven and I am a 2013 alum.  I am looking for roommates and permanent housing starting in August.  I would like to be in walking distance from a metro line and my preferred price range is $1000 - $1500/ month.  Please contact KellyMcRaven@gmail.com if interested!

· (NEW) My name is Paul Leuck and I'm starting grad school in DC this fall. I'm looking to move downtown from my current place in Fairfax any time from June on. I'm open to apartments and shared houses in most neighborhoods with good public transit access to Dupont Circle. My main criteria is price. I'd like to keep rent and utilities at or below $1100. I would like to live with people who are around the age of 24-26, clean, active, and healthy. I played varsity tennis at ND and still maintain a regular exercise routine. I am 24 years old and graduated from ND in 2011 witha degree in finance. I currently work in Arlington, VA for Grant Thornton LLP doing consulting. My phone number is 240-277-2813 and email is dstahl3@alumni.nd.edu.

· Brynn Gerstle, class of 2012, will be moving to DC area in August to attend GW's ABSN program. She is looking for an apartment/house to rent with roommates for no more than $1200 a month. The program lasts until December 2014. Preferably a place in biking/walking distance from the Orange or Blue line. Please contact Bgerstle27@gmail.com if interested.

· I am graduating in May and looking for a few roommates to live with (1-3). I will be living in the city full time, and am hoping to move in over the summer. I am looking to be in DC because I am working on the Hill. Rent over $1200 would be stretching it. Email William at wsalvi5@yahoo.com if interested.

· Chelsea Howe, Class of 2013, is hoping to find an apartment in Arlington (within walking distance of the orange line) ranging from $800-$1200 per person. She is hoping to connect with people who have a room available beginning in June or alternatively people who will be interested in finding an apartment beginning in June. Has a Room/Apartment Available

 · (NEW) We are two males (I am ND '04; my roommate is Yale '08 and a current PhD candidate at GW) looking for a long-term male or female roommate to replace a female roommate who's moving out on June 1st. Rent: $580 (+ utilities) per month bedroom in Columbia Heights at 14th and Meridian. Bedroom: 7.5' X 12.5', 4 skylights, hardwood floors, closet, well-insulated from the noise coming up from 14th St. below; bathroom across the hall to be shared with one other person. Amenities in the apartment: central heating and air conditioning, washer/dryer, dishwasher, gas range and oven, and microwave. While the bedroom itself is on the small side, the ample common space of the apartment is available more often than not for relaxation, etc. Location: Across 14th Street from the Allegro Apartments, Thaitanic II restaurant, Le Caprice bakery, and the Getaway bar & restaurant; 4–5 blocks (6 minutes on foot) from the Columbia Heights Metro.

Go Irish!

ANNUAL WREATH LAYING AT THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER 5/26

Sunday, May 26 – 10:15 a.m.
Arlington Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The ND Alumni Club of Washington, DC, is scheduled to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers on Sunday, May 26, at 12:15 p.m., in honor of Notre Dame alumni who have personified the words "God, Country, Notre Dame."  Everyone is welcome to join us for the ceremony.  Keep in mind that the Tomb is a 20-minute walk from the Visitor Center, Metro stop, and Parking, so please plan accordingly.  Army protocol calls for four people to accompany our wreath.  Please contact David Diaz '95 at cerritos117@msn.com if you would like to volunteer or to nominate a current or former member of our Armed Services or if you have any questions about the event.  We will meet on the south side of the Amphitheater Building.
