Note: listings include the date in which they first appeared or were last updated on the housing newsletter. Please help us keep these emails up to date by letting me know when your housing needs have been met so I can remove your listing. Thank you! Go Irish.

FOR ANY NEW HOUSING REQUESTS, OR TO CHANGE, ALTER, OR REMOVE A LISTING, PLEASE EMAIL MARIA PAULA ELIZONDO AT MP.ELIZONDO@GMAIL.COM.

LOOKING FOR TEMPORARY HOUSING

***(NEW) 11/27 Hello everyone! My name is Juliette Garcia-Flahaut, a junior, electrical engineering major currently at Notre Dame. I am looking for a place to stay for the duration of my internship this summer (about 10-12 weeks, starting May 29th 2018). I will be interning at a company in Centerville, VA and am looking to rent out either a room or an apartment. Please email me at jgarci20@nd.edu if you can help me out. Thank you!***

LOOKING FOR PERMANENT HOUSING

*** 10/2 Hey! I'm looking for a room in DC starting October 1st. I graduated from ND in 2014 and am an architect/urban designer moving to the city at the end of the month for a new job and to be closer to my family. I'm looking to find an apartment with access to the red line since I'll be commuting out to Bethesda. I'm up for moving into an existing place or finding an apartment with someone. I'm a respectful and clean roommate, and would have no problem keeping the common areas clean. I'll be pretty busy with work during the week and usually hit the gym after work, but am definitely up for sharing a beer or glass of wine with my housemates and chatting about our days. One other thing, I do have a small cat. Her name is Bella, and she is only about 7 lbs and very quiet and calm. If that was a concern in any way though, she could stay in my room the majority of the time, but she is very sweet and barely makes a noise. If you have an available room, just shoot me an e-mail at erica.ridlon@gmail.com. Thanks!***

*** 9/5 My name is Kevin Culligan, and I'm a recent graduate (class of '17) from Notre Dame. I'm starting a job in McLean, VA in a few weeks, so I'm looking for a male roommate in the Washington, D.C. area. Anyone interested can reach out to me at kcullig1@alumni.nd.edu. ***

*** 9/5 Hello, I am a 2017 ND grad moving to the DC area in September. I am working in downtown DC, but I am open to living in both DC and Virginia. I would prefer a female roommate with access to a metro station.  I am a organized, easy going person who is guilty of watching too much Netflix. Please email me at stakahat@alumni.nd.edu if you know of any opportunities. Thanks!***

*** 8/17 Hey Everyone! This is Terrence, class of '95. Go IRISH! I'm transitioning back to the area after some years away and looking for a room to rent (with a bathroom) near Logan Circle. I want to keep costs low and only spend $500 a month on the room if possible. I have family in the area and am staying with them while I sort through job opportunities (e.g. legislative research analysis) in the area. I am a great high character and low drama roommate. Please email me at tporterdc@outlook.com if you know of any opportunities. Thank you and Be Richly Blessed! Terrence***

We plan on having an open house on Saturday, November 11, and the room is available starting November 15 Please contact me at james.f.genoves@gmail.com if you are interested.***

I am a former high school English teacher and I now work for an education non-profit in DC. I recently moved back to the DMV after living in Brooklyn, NY for the last seven years. As far as sharing an apartment, I like to keep the common areas neat. I definitely always clean up after I cook and I take on my share of the cleaning with the other common areas. I am friendly and enjoy catching up with my roommate, but I also appreciate having alone time, so I can adapt either way depending on my roommate's personality." If this sounds like it would be a good fit, email eflores2@alumni.nd.edu***

*** 10/19 Room available December 1 in Northeast Capitol Hill, 3 blocks from H Street, directly between the Eastern Market and Union Station metros and one block from a bikeshare. We are a five minute walk to some of the best bars and restaurants in DC, but still live on a quiet street with a community garden right behind us. The house has a huge cherry tree in the front yard and a patio with a garden and grill out back. Indoors we have all the streaming services and kitchen gadgets you could ever want. Rent for the first floor room is $615/month, and the bathroom is shared with one other roommate. Utilities are an additional $50-$90 depending on the season. The housemates are three women ages 25-30 -- one is an architect, one is an engineer, one is an ND grad who works for a nonprofit.  Please reach out to Beth Spesia with any questions: bethspesia@gmail.com***

*** 10/19 Seeking a female to take over the lease for my bedroom in a three-bedroom Woodley Park apartment, starting Nov. 1 (or sooner - negotiable). [wapadc] Save the date: Doc Film Screening at AU, Monday Nov 27, 2017, 6:30-8pm

Dear friends,

As some of you already know I've spent the past few months organizing a documentary film screening at AU, and am writing to invite you to attend it.

Dr. Sam Hampton will screen his new documentary film about a transgender youth of color from Silver Spring, MD, 22 year old Zo. The film, "Change in the Family," chronicles Zo's experiences and those of his family members on both sides of the Atlantic as Zo transitions from female to male, http://changeinthefamily.com/

Last month, Sam and Zo visited my "Gender, Sexuality and Culture" classes at American University, where they shared excerpts of the film with 80 of my undergraduate students; they and their film were met with much enthusiasm.

Here are the details:
Monday, November 27, 6:30-8pm, in Kerwin 2 auditorium.* The screening of the 63 minute long film will be followed by a Q&A and reception with the filmmaker and the protagonist's fatherPlease share the FaceBook invitation with others who might be interested: https://www.facebook.com/events/288842361602757

*Kerwin building, formerly known as Ward Building, is located at Ward Circle. Parking is available for free after hours across the street, underneath the Katzen Arts Center. See the attached map for directions.

Thanks for getting the word out, and I hope to see you next Monday evening!

[wapadc] Entrepreneur and MA workshops at AAA

Anthropologists may not consider themselves business persons, but have you ever wanted to be your own boss? To be an independent consultant or run your own small business? If you have an interest in, and questions about, these issues, a NAPA workshop at the start of the forthcoming AAA meetings in DC should be of interest.

Cheekily named "Anthropological Entrepreneurship: Contradiction or Reality?," the workshop will review critical issues to consider when thinking about striking out on your own. As a bonus, a roundtable with a special panel of anthropological entrepreneurs will be featured in the second half of the workshop.

The workshop is led by Terry Redding (Independent consultant) and Benjamin Blount (Principal of SocioEcological Informatics). The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday (November 29) afternoon, 1 to 5 p.m. The roundtable panel will include Mari Clarke (World Bank consultant), Judy Tso (Aha Solutions Unlimited), Maryann McCabe (Cultural Connections LLC), Elizabeth Briody (Cultural Keys, LLC), and Michael Youngblood (The Youngblood Group).

You may also consider another career-related NAPA workshop; this one is for those earning or holding an MA/MS. On Saturday morning, Dec. 2, from 8 a.m. to noon, we'll be discussing career options for anthropology Masters degree holders.

"Getting a Job as a Master's Level Anthropologist" will cover where and how to look for a job, preparing an effective cover letter and resume, and how to present yourself and anthropology to potential employers. The workshop will be led by Terry Redding (Independent consultant and long-time instant mentor for NAPA) and Carol Elllick (Founder of ACE Consultants and co-author of "The Anthropology Graduate's Guide: From Student to a Career). A special guest, Tom Greaves, the long-time mentor program coordinator for NAPA, will join the session for a roundtable discussion.

For more information about these and other NAPA workshops, or for registration information, visit the NAPA website at: http://practicinganthropology.org/about/annual-meeting/annual-meeting-2017/napa-workshops-2017/

Please feel free to forward this message to any interested parties or lists.
