VOLUNTEER AT FATHER MCKENNA HOMELESS SHELTER (Saturday, 1/30)

Join the NDDC in volunteering at the Father McKenna Homeless Shelter on Saturday, January 30! The Day Shelter welcomes approximately 95 men each day for an array of services.  Without volunteers, the shelter is not be able to be open on Saturdays - so this would really help them out!  They need volunteer support 7:30 - 1:30, so we're looking at 2 shifts (7:30-10:30, 10:30 - 1:30).    The nominal schedule is as follows:

7:30        Arrival and Quick Orientation
8:00        Serve Coffee/Tea and pastries
8:30        Serve breakfast
9:00        End of breakfast / Prep lunch
11:30     Group meeting in Chapel
12:00     Serve lunch / eat with the men
12:45     Clean-up

If you are interested in helping out, that would be great!  Please email MaryKate Robinson at marykate@alumni.nd.edu if you are interested and what your availability is (what shift you would like).  And feel free to pass on the invite/request!


EARLY ADMITTED STUDENTS  RECEPTION (MONDAY, 2/1)


Please join us at the Early Admitted Students Reception on Monday, February 1st to welcome high school seniors who have been offered early admission to Notre Dame. This is an opportunity to mingle with early admit students and their families, share your experiences, answer questions, and offer a glimpse into what makes Notre Dame so special. Your insights, knowledge, and passion are key to the success of this event! The reception will be held at 2300 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22201 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on February 1st. HESBURGH LECTURE FEATURING PROF. JAMES McKENNA (THURSDAY, 2/18)

Join the Notre Dame Club of Washington, D.C. for our annual Hesburgh Lecture featuring Professor James McKenna, Professor of Anthropology. Prof. McKenna will be giving his lecture entitled, "Do Men and Women Speak in Two Different Tongues? If So, Why?" on Thursday, February 18th at Buffalo Billiards near Dupont Circle in DC. Join us for happy hour starting at 6 PM, and his lecture will start around 6:30 PM. Enjoy this opportunity for continuing education, networking, and an evening with one of ND's most dynamic professors--and tap dancers!



2016 WINTERFEST FLIP CUP TOURNAMENT (SATURDAY, 2/27)

Join us for our Annual Winterfest Flip Cup tournament on Saturday, February 27th at Grand Central in Adams Morgan!


We'll have unlimited beer for players and spectators from 8-11 PM. Cost is $25/person for dues paying Club members and $30/person for non-members (cash at door).

Books to Prisoners (NEW!)

Volunteer with us as we fulfill prisoners' requests with the Books-to-Prisoners Project at the Foundry United Methodist Church. We will round up donated books to send to prisoners based on their interests articulated through letters. First-time volunteers need to arrive no later than 6:30 pm for the required orientation. The B2P project supports prison libraries in all 50 states and sends out more than 4,000 packages annually. This program has been around for more than 10 years and is truly one of a kind.

BETTER OFF BOWLING


Looking for some alum sports fun over the Winter?


Better Off Bowling is a co-ed social bowling league for young professionals that run two separate leagues, one on Sunday afternoons AND another on Tuesday evenings during the Winter (and yes, the NFL games are on the big screen TVs, PLUS no bowling on Super Bowl Sunday!).  They have a bunch of young professionals along with a number of other school alum groups and usually have ~400 fun social people in the league.  They've contacted us hoping we would be interested in getting a team or two together (does not have to be all alums though).  Registration ends early January, and the league starts rolling Jan 17th for the Sunday league and Jan 12th for the Tuesday night league!
