Re: [NSCoderNightDC] Need recommendation for email provider...

I've heard good things about FastMail, but I don't use it myself. I personally use Google apps, which allows you to use gmail with your @ domain. I got really lucky in that I got grandfathered in when it was all free. It currently costs either $5 or $10 a month on storage options apparently.

I've been using FastMail for several years, and they've been great. I'll mention up front that they have occasionally had the kinds of problems you've described, but they've been open about it and have resolved it pretty quickly. (See http://www.fastmailstatus.com/services/mail-delivery).

I'm not the only person who likes Fastmail, either. It comes up a lot when programmers I know ask for mail host recommendations on Twitter: https://twitter.com/isaiah/status/647448602722177024

I currently have my mail going to Dreamhost and then forwarded to Fastmail, but Fastmail does offer custom domain services. Their service information and pricing is at https://www.fastmail.com/signup/personal.html?STKI=1080253 (that's a referral link).

...or maybe I should just briefly describe the problem, rather than assuming a solution.

Outlook.com, gmail.com, and possibly others have started silently discarding email sent from my domain to their users.

(BTW, as I am in the middle of yet another job search, I've discovered that a large number of @<some_small_company>.com are really outlook.com which as you can guess really sucks in terms of (a) actually being able to communicate with potential employers and (b) presenting a facade of competence on my part).

My current provider has determined that an email account I'd completely forgotten about had apparently been compromised and had been sending out a ton of spam. They pointed me in the direction of Outlook and Google's forms for handling this. I've filled them out and Outlook has basically told me "tough shit, you're not eligible for 'mitigation'". I haven't heard from Google.

After doing a little research I suspect that if I screw around with DKIM, make sure my DNS records are squeaky clean, look into SPF, and make a sacrifice under the next blood moon, maybe, just maybe, I can start getting my email delivered again. You know what? I don't have time for this shit. I've decided that here is a situation begging to have money thrown at it.

So I'm willing to be convinced that I shouldn't throw in the towel on pretending to be a system admin, but I won't hold my breath. So alternatively, can anybody recommend a not-outrageously-expensive provider that can run my email?

I should mention that my preference is to continue to have my emails be @ my domain, otherwise I'd just completely give up and use a gmail account.

Thanks,

Matt
