Ashley Upcoming Events Happy Hour in the Heights Where: Meridian Pint (3400 11th Street, NW) When: Thursday, February 12, (6:00 - 8:00pm) Metro: Columbia Heights (Green/Yellow) DCYP Kiwanis is holding our first Happy Hour in the young professional mecca of Columbia Heights! We'll head to craft-beer-crazy Meridian Pint where you'll have your choice of 130+ beers with happy hour deals (http://meridianpint.com/beer/). As always, our February Happy Hour will be a great way to connect with friends, meet other young professionals, and learn about upcoming DCYP events. As always, look for the red balloon! Eco Stewards Discovery Day Where: Springhill Lake Recreation Center (6101 Cherrywood Lane, Greenbelt, MD 20770) When: Saturday, February 14, (10:00am - 1:00pm) Metro: Greenbelt (Green/Yellow) Join us on on Valentine's Day to volunteer with CHEARS (Chesapeake Education, Arts and Research Society) for Eco Stewards Discovery Day! We will help with the last phase of their Food Forest design at the Springhill Recreation Center in Greenbelt, MD. We'll be labeling plants, removing invasive species and working with their young Eco Stewards (5-9 yr olds) with terrarium building. Foster Dog Adoption Event Where: Webers Pet Supermarket (11021 Lee Highway Fairfax, VA 22030) When: Saturday, February 21, (11:45am - 3:00pm) Metro: Carpools arranged from Vienna metro (Orange) Calling all dog lovers! Can't have a dog of your own just yet? Well come help us volunteer with Mutt Love Rescue, a no kill shelter for dogs in the DC region. They host weekly adoption events at pet stores and need volunteers to be in charge of a dog for the afternoon, keeping it on leash and speaking with potential adopters about your dog. We'll arrive at 11:45 to get matched up with our dogs and wrap just after 3 pm. Because they bring as many dogs as possible and look to match one dog with one handler please plan to stay for the full event and if you need to cancel please let us know a few days in advance. Stand-Up Comedy at the Kennedy Center Where: Kennedy Center (2700 F St NW) When: Thursday, February 26, (5:30 - 8:00pm) Metro: Foggy Bottom / GWU (Orange / Blue / Silver) DCYP Kiwanis is heading to the Kennedy Center for a free stand-up comedy show by acclaimed comic, Hari Kondabol. Check out the Kennedy Center's profile below: "The New York Times has called Hari Kondabolu 'one of the most exciting political comics in stand-up today.' Hari served as a writer and correspondent on the Chris Rock–produced television show Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell on FX, and has performed on the Late Show with David Letterman, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show." Free general admission tickets will be distributed in the States Gallery starting at 5:30pm, with up to 2 tickets per person. The show starts at 6pm. DC Books - to - Prison Project *NEW* Where: Foundry United Methodist Church (1500 16th St NW) When: Monday, March 2 (6:00 - 8:00pm) Metro: Dupont Circle (Red) Join DCYP as we sort through donated books and send them off to prisoners based on their interest articulated through letters or by need. The B2P project supports prison libraries in all 50 states and sends out more than 4,000 packages annually. This program has been around for more than 10 years and is truly one of a kind.
