This did the trick.  I was able to back up the DB.  Install a clean version, then copy over the db and all is good.

I've tried renewing the profile, recreating the profile and numerous other combinations.  All with no success.  Any thoughts you smart folks have are very welcome.  As I said this app was specifically built for my wife who's amassed a fair amount of data and would like very much not to lose it.
