ANNUAL WREATH LAYING AT THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER 5/26

Arlington Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The ND Alumni Club of Washington, DC, is scheduled to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers on Sunday, May 26, at 12:15 p.m., in honor of Notre Dame alumni who have personified the words "God, Country, Notre Dame."  Everyone is welcome to join us for the ceremony.  Keep in mind that the Tomb is a 20-minute walk from the Visitor Center, Metro stop, and Parking, so please plan accordingly.  Army protocol calls for four people to accompany our wreath.  Please contact David Diaz '95 at

SPANISH MASS 4/7

Please join us on Sunday, April 7th to celebrate Spanish Mass. This will be a great opportunity to also reconnect with old friends, make new ones and practice your Spanish/Spanglish skills. The Mass will be held at 1 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle (located within a short walking distance from the Farragut North (L Street exit) and Dupont Circle, Metro Stations. address below). After Mass we will enjoy coffee or a bite to eat and we hope to see you there too. We will meet by the stairs in front the third entrance door. Please look for folks wearing ND gear. For additional information, please contact Marcela Monsalve by email at mmonsalv@alumni.nd.edu.

[anc6c04] NoMa Parks Update (Great News!!!)

Neighbors,

Great news this morning that the preliminary budget from Mayor Gray will include $50 million for acquisition & construction of parks in NoMa!  Thank you everyone for your hard work lobbying for this important issue!

Now, the hard work begins!  The next step will be to get this funding request through the DC Council budget process, including multiple committee hearings & votes.  There will be plenty of ways that we will need to organize over the next couple months for testimony, emails and other actions.  I'll do my best to keep everyone informed and involved.

Have a great day!

Thank you,
Tony Goodman
ANC Commissioner, 6C06

Looking For Permanent Housing

· (NEW) Chelsea Howe, Class of 2013, is hoping to find an apartment in Arlington (within walking distance of the orange line) ranging from $800-$1200 per person. She is hoping to connect with people who have a room available beginning in June or alternatively people who will be interested in finding an apartment beginning in June. Please contact Chelsea by email, chowe@nd.edu.

· (NEW) Maria Smith (ND 05) is looking for a roommate/s to split a one-year lease on an apartment or row house on the green/yellow line starting in June, possibly near Columbia Heights or U Street.  I'll be doing a one-year fellowship with a federal contractor.  I'm somewhat flexible on rent but hoping to keep things reasonable (by DC standards for those neighborhoods, at least), and I'm already in the area, so I'm happy to do some leg work looking at potential places.  Email maria.smith.83@gmail.com if you're interested.  Thanks!

· Jeffrey Gonzales (jeff.gonzales.m@gmail.com) is new to DC and looking for a place to live!  I'd like a 2BD/2BA place (townhouse, apartment, condo) up to $3,200 a month on rent (split two ways).  As for location, it really doesn't matter to me.  I'd be good with Arlington or in the city.  I'm able to move in right away.  Also, I have a dog (4.5 year old boxer and house trained) so the roommate would have to have to be cool with that.  I'm looking for a young professional roommate, male or female, and that's it really!

· Tommy Krcmaric is going to be in DC for an unpaid internship located about 7 or 8 blocks north of the White House, right by the Farragut North metro stop. The main factors influencing where I want to live are cost and proximity to the office or proximity to the metro. The office is right by metro stops for the red, orange, and blue lines. Anything relatively cheap and close to those lines and/or the office itself would be ideal. I'm completely open to having a roommate. Please contact tkrcmaric@gmail.com for details.

· Michael Jackson is a fifth year (originally class of 2012) and will be moving to the Arlington area in early to mid-July for a job at Tysons Corner. He's looking to either house or apartment share once he moves to DC! Price range is $750-1100. Contact mjackson@alumni.nd.edu if interested.

· Two Notre Dame law students are searching for summer housing in the D.C. area this summer.  Dates will be from mid-May to the first week of August.  Preferred neighborhoods include Capitol Hill, DuPont Circle, Woodley Park, Foggy Bottom, and Orange-Line Arlington.  Easy Access to Metro is a must.  Furnishings preferred.  If interested, please contact Jon Heintz '09 at jgheintz@gmail.com

Thanks to all that came out to the networking reception last week, and we hope everyone had a great time!

This Saturday we will be working with Home First, an organization that helps low income senior citizens continue to live independently by assisting them with household chores including yardwork, cleaning, and painting. There is a limit to the number of volunteers that can attend this project, so email the service team (dcyp.service@gmail.com) ASAP to sign-up.

Be sure to save the date for our upcoming Cherry Blossom Kite Festival social (Saturday, March 30) as well as the next General Meeting / Street Outreach Service Project (Wednesday, April 3) and happy hour (Wednesday, April 10).

Have a nice day!

Ashley
