This Saturday DCYP will be working alongside members of the Kiwanis family to enhance and preserve the Capitol Hill Montessori School at Logan during the MLK National Day of Service.  Sign-up for this great event by emailing dcyp.service@gmail.com.  

As part of our Street Outreach project scheduled for February 12, we will be collecting unopened travel size toiletries for the homeless at some of our upcoming events.  A list of what we are collecting is below.  Bring your toiletries to the General Meeting on January 30, 7:00pm at the West End Library, where you can help assemble the care packages. Additional items will also be accepted at the DCYP Happy Hour at Elephant and Castle , February 6 at 6:00pm.

MLK Day of Service 
Where: Capitol Hill Montessori School @ Logan (215 G St NE)
When: Saturday, January 19, 8:00am - 1:00 pm
Metro: Union Station (Red)
Join DCYP Kiwanis for the “Project Inside/Outside” National Day of Service Event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will work alongside members of the Kiwanis family to revitalize and strengthen the Capitol Hill Montessori School at Logan and its surrounding neighborhood. The project is designed to enhance and preserve the school “Inside,” and to serve the needs of the homeless through a blanket drive “Outside.” Volunteers may be painting, completing odd jobs, dusting, gardening, and other improvement projects at this innovative school. To volunteer, email dcyp.service@gmail.com.
This event, hosted by Eastern High School Key Club, is one of the thousands of service projects that will take place around the country over MLK weekend. “Project Inside/Outside” has been designated as a National Day of Service Partner of the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee.


General Meeting
Where: West End Library (1101 24th Street, NW
When: Wednesday, January 30, 7 - 8:30 pm

Members and guests, join us for the first meeting of 2013! At the meeting, you can learn ways to get involved with service projects and socials in the new year, and also participate in an in-house service project. Ready to become an official member? Just join before the meeting to be part of the new member induction ceremony. Email Membership Director Ajay dcyp.membership@gmail.com for details.  The meeting will be in the group room on the second floor.  Don't forget to bring your travel-size toiletries!

Food For All
Where: Universalist National Memorial Church (1810 16th St NW)
When: Saturday, February 2, 9am - 12pm 
Metro: 
U Street (Green/Yellow) & Dupont Circle (Red)
Help package and deliver boxes of food to DC families in need. From 9-10am, we will help pack over one hundred boxes with non-perishable food items. Then, we will divide into cars and blanket the city to deliver the food. To sign up, email dcyp.service@gmail.com and please indicate if you are willing to help drive a group for deliveries.

Happy Hour Meet & Greet
Where: Elephant & Castle (900 19th Street Northwest )
When: Wednesday, February 6, 6 - 8 pm
Metro: 
Farragut North/West (Red/Blue/Orange)
Come meet and hang out with fellow young professionals at happy hour / meet and greet at Elephant & Castle in Farragut. 900 19th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20006 near the Farragut metro stops. Drop in anytime between 6 and 8pm. You can also pick up information on the upcoming service projects and events. See you all soon! Just ask the host for Kiwanis or look for the balloon.  Don't forget to bring your travel-size toiletries!  These toiletries will be given to homeless people during our Street Outreach project on February 12.

Street Outreach
Where: NW DC (exact location TBD)
When: Tuesday, February 12, 6 - 8pm

DCYP is organizing its own street outreach project! Join us on Tuesday, February 12 as we will be preparing and delivering sandwiches in various DC downtown neighborhoods to homeless people in the area. Meet up location TBD. We will have more details finalized soon.  Please email dcyp.service@gmail.com if you are interested in participating. If you cannot make the February date, we will be doing the same project one night in March as well.
