All,
Please see below for a storm update, and note in particular that
Monday trash collection is CANCELLED for 10/29. DPW will send out an
update later with the next time for trash & recycling pickup in our
neighborhood.
Be careful and be safe with this upcoming storm! The most important
thing that you can do to help prevent flooding on your street and
house is to collect and bag leaves from your yard, sidewalk, and
gutters.
Thank you,
Tony Goodman

Subject: [CHNNA:] DC Government Agencies Prepping for Sandy
To: "CHNNA Google Group (chnna@googlegroups.com)" <chnna@googlegroups.com>
DC GOVERNMENT PREPARES FOR HURRICANE SANDY BY CLEARING STORM DRAINS,
DISTRIBUTING SANDBAGS, GEARING UP TO REMOVE DEBRIS Multiple agencies
will work through the weekend to meet the storm's challenge.
(Washington, DC) The DC Department of Public Works is coordinating
the District government's advance preparations to respond to Hurricane
Sandy, which is expected to produce heavy rainfall and strong winds
when it reaches the mid-Atlantic Sunday night. Flooding also is
possible. Meteorologists are predicting 4" to 8" of rain to fall
between Sunday night and Wednesday with bursts of rain falling 2" per
hour. Tropical storm force winds of 20-30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50
mph also are predicted.
"DC government agencies are implementing their operational plans to
meet the hurricane," said DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr. "DC
Water already is clearing storm drains citywide. DPW will distribute
sandbags Saturday, October 27 only between 10 am and 6 pm at RFK
Stadium, Lot 7. Additionally, the District Department of
Transportation is assigning staff and contractors to be ready to
collect storm debris starting Monday, October 29 and DPW crews with
assist."
DPW tow trucks will be deployed as necessary to remove vehicles
blocking roadways. DDOT has generators in place at major
intersections. If power is disrupted, traffic signals will continue
to work, and DDOT traffic control officers will be deployed to direct
traffic where necessary.
"The strong winds can take down trees and limbs," said Director
Howland. "We ask the public to report down trees by calling 311. To
report outages and down wires, call Pepco at 1-877-PEPCO-62
(1-877-737-2662)."
DPW is postponing Monday's bulk collections and notifying residents of
the new day. Also, residents are asked to bag their leaves so they
don't collect in the storm drains and cause flooding.
Residents may go to hsema.dc.gov to get tips to help them prepare
their homes and families for the storm. To receive important TXT
