The Market Research Manager is a non-supervisory position in the Market Intelligence and Analysis (MIA) department within the Strategy and Business Development division at the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP). The MIA department performs a centralized business analytics and market research function for USP – supporting all levels of the organization including the Executive Team. Key stakeholder partners include, but are not limited to, Strategic Market and Program Operations (SMPO) leadership for: Chemical Medicines, Dietary Supplements and Herbal Medicines, Foods, Biologics, and Healthcare Quality Standards.
The Market Research Manager role is responsible for supporting organizational understanding of the USP's customers and business environment. They identify, research, and monitor key competitors, markets, and trends through primary and secondary research techniques. This position's scope encompasses in-depth organizational knowledge of USP's Public Health Programs, including: official standards publications, reference standards, communications, pharmacopeial education, verification, and other products and services to facilitate sound decision making.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Proactively serve as a thought partner with USP leadership. Participate in corporate planning and new product development processes to identify opportunities, address needs, and support the development of business and marketing plans
- Bring external perspectives and insight into business planning for the organization, accomplished through:
- Identify, research, profile and monitor USP's competitors and their product lines to provide context to decision making
- Monitor trends in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, biotech, dietary supplement, food and other related industries to assess their implications for USP business lines
- Autonomously manage global primary and secondary market research (qualitative and quantitative). Strength in applying advanced statistical analyses and leveraging business intelligence to support strategic, tactical and operational initiatives as well as planning and implementation of new and potential USP products and programs is essential
- Steward projects to generate actionable and meaningful insights. Develop research plans to meet business needs, consult with internal business partners, establish and manage schedules, monitor progress, and compellingly communicate the results
- Acquire and manage market research vendors to ensure quality work is provided on-time and on-budget
- Represents the Strategy and Business Development with poise and professionalism
- Acts as a mentor to junior research staff
- Performs other related duties as required
