[tfctoastmasters:646] Talk For Change: Recap of last night's meeting

Fellow Toastmasters,

We had a good meeting last night. For those of you who weren't able to make it:

  • Lennette Ward joined us as a guest for her first Toastmasters meeting ever. Welcome again, Lennette! And Katie Wagner visited for the second time and will likely be giving her first D.C. speech next month.
  • Beth Blair gave her Ice Breaker speech and we learned more about Rochester, N.Y. than we ever could've imagined.
  • Laura Zam shared an inspiring tale of her mother's perserverance during her days in a concentration camp and optimism and zest for life after arriving in the U.S.
  • During Table Topics, Omer Ipekci, our Treasurer and Immediate Past President, afforded us the opportunity to talk about ways to be/stay patient, what tries our patience and who would win the Nobel Prize for Patience.
  • Laura, Omer and Nils Junge (our Vice President Education [why there's no "of" or "for" between "President" and "Education" is beyond me]) made up a stellar evaluation team, keeping us on our toes about time, our use (or misuse) of language and how we can improve our abilities behind the lectern and as a club on the whole.

At our next meeting (Wednesday, September 2, 6:45 p.m.), Jill Vanderweit, our lone DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster) and our Vice President Public Relations, will be speaking, so you won't want to miss hearing from an always-engaging and entertaining speaker. And if you're planning to attend, please sign up for a role — or even to speak (we have one slot that's there for the taking). To sign up, go to bit.ly/tfcsignup.

Please contact me if you have any questions about Talk For Change, our meetings or Toastmasters in general.

Hope to see you on the 2nd!

Cheers,
Mark Wills
2015-2016 President
Talk For Change
