HANDS SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Hello! We are HANDS, a non-profit organization founded by three Guatemalan Notre Dame students in 2008 that provides short-term volunteer experiences in Guatemala and El Salvador. We're writing to spread the word to Notre Dame Alumni Clubs and their members about the volunteer opportunities we offer.

As an organization with strong ties to Notre Dame, we understand and admire the commitment of the Notre Dame community to service. Since 2008, we've attracted over 220 volunteers from Notre Dame and other universities who travel to Guatemala or El Salvador and work in education, housing, or medicine, representing more than 3,000 hours of volunteer service. We accept volunteers year-round, from all ages and nationalities, and we'd like to invite you and your members to discover the power of making a difference through volunteerism.

As an Alumni Club, we know that you have committed to the 6 C's. We believe that we can help you enhace strong values of social responsibility and fulfill your Community Service requirement by arranging trips for alumni who wish to help others and volunteer abroad. It is truly an amazing experience!

Please consider helping us promote our organization to your Alumni Club. More information about HANDS can be found on our website, our Facebook page (follow us!) and/or you can contact us directly through this email address. ND ALUMNI SOFTBALL 2013

Lads and Lasses.  The 2013 Capital Alumni Network (CAN) Co-Ed Softball League season has begun. Though we have a great core group that has played for several years, we are always looking for new faces who like to play some ball and drink some beverages.  If you have a glove, and/or like drinking beers mid-week, then you qualify!  Boom.  Just like that.  For more information please contact coach Jimmy Mandich '02/'03 MSA at jimmymandich@yahoo.com or Brandon Lenk '06/'07 Arkie (stupid Jimmy with his dual year degrees, I could walk twice too ya know!) at brandonlenk@gmail.com.  Or both of us just to be safe.  Go Irish!

[ND-DC-YA] ND-DC-YA Housing Newsletter

YAs - For any new housing requests, or to change, alter, or remove a listing, please email the moderator, Katherine Malkovsky, at kmalkovs@gmail.com.

Looking For Permanent Housing

· (NEW) (URGENT) Class of 2012 graduate looking for roommates/housing within walking distance of the Orange or Red Line. Currently has an empty second bedroom in the Clarendon/Courthouse area if anyone is interested, but would be open to relocating if necessary. Trying to pay under $1200/month. Would need access to parking, and would move in late August/early September. Looking to sign a 12-month lease. Open to living with males or females, and would live in a house, condo, apartment, or anything else with a roof. Email justinjcullen@gmail.com if interested.

· (NEW) (URGENT) My name is Christine D'Alessandro.  I graduated from ND in May and recently received a job offer in DC.  I know this is rather last minute, but I'm looking to relocate to the area around the first week of September, as my start date is September 9.  Ideally, I'd like to find a roommate to share an apartment with.  My price range is $1200-1400 a month. Please email me at cdaless1@alumni.nd.edu if you can help!

· (NEW) Dante Garcia is a 2013 graduate who will be starting work mid-July in McLean.  He's looking for housing between $800 and $1200 per month and doesn't mind sharing an apartment.  Email dgarci11@alumni.nd.edu if interested.

· Michael Jackson is a fifth year (originally class of 2012) and will be moving to the Arlington area in early to mid-July for a job at Tysons Corner. He's looking to either house or apartment share once he moves to DC! Price range is $750-1100. Contact mjackson@alumni.nd.edu if interested.

Has a Room/Apartment Available

· (NEW) Class of 2010 graduate is seeking a roommate to occupy a fully furnished room in a spacious two-story house in one of DC's most desirable neighborhoods.  Located just two blocks from the Friendship Heights Metro, this warm duplex-style home is conveniently tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood.  But despite the pleasant "neighborhood feel," the four block perimeter of this location offers many amenities, including: four grocery stores, ten restaurants, several great bars, and one of the District's premier retail shopping strips. Rent amounts to a very reasonable $900 dollars a month, plus utilities and cable (est. $150-$200).  A driveway parking spot is included in the rent, and the bedroom and house are fully furnished.  The room is available as soon as September 1, and rent will be prorated if you move in later in the month.

We are a pair of equally laid-back, twenty-something professionals who enjoy sports, the grill, craft beers, and exploring Washington DC's many corridors.  While ambitious work agendas and busy social schedules may send us running in different directions on any given day, a relaxing evening on the porch or a few pops at one of the local watering holes is never out of the question.  We've enjoyed a cordial, fun, and drama-free rooming situation for the past two years, and look forward to keeping it that way as a new roommate is welcomed to our pleasant abode. Please contact mmccar12@gmail.com if interested.

· (NEW) Two bedrooms for rent in a great four bedroom rowhouse in the U Street Corridor starting October 1. Rooms include the master bedroom and a spacious bedroom on the first floor. Both have great lighting and fireplaces and share a bathroom with one other person. The house is located just past W Street on 13th Street NW, a block from the heart of U Street and a 6 minute walk from the metro.  The home has A/C, a washer and dryer, and a large kitchen and pantry. Rent is $1350/mo/per room.  Utilities are not included and are split among everyone in the house.
We are two women in our mid to late twenties- One of us is a paralegal and the other works on the Hill (and is Class of 2010). We've had great roommates in the past and are looking for fun, laid back, outgoing people to live with! Our house has always been co-ed and it's worked really well, so anyone is welcome. If you are interested send an email (stephanie.m.parks@gmail.comand we'll set up an open house!

The rent is $975 per month, plus utilities, which usually run $100-$150 per month per person. We're looking for a non-smoking, mid-20s woman who is friendly and social. Also must be clean and responsible and have lived with roommates in the past. Ideally, our new roommate will also love West Wing. Sorry, but no pets allowed. For more information (including photos), please e-mail nstreethouse@gmail.com with a bit of information about yourself and any questions you might have.

· Bright English Basement Apartment (Bloomingdale/Northwest DC) – 1 bedroom -$1450 with utilities. Contact: Liz at spezi22@aol.com if interested.

· I am looking for a Catholic/Christian female to share a spacious 2 bedroom condo at the Gates of McLean condominium complex in McLean, VA. $850/month + 1/2 utilities (approx $60-$90 a month). Large bedroom (11' x 14') with private full bath and walk-in closet. Located near Route 66, I-495 and the Dulles Access Toll Road; gated community with assigned and visitor parking; swimming pool; jacuzzi; full gym with new equipment and recently renovated locker room and sauna; business center (computers, fax & the internet). 2nd story unit with spacious patio overlooking the swimming pool; gas fireplace; washer and dryer; common dining and living rooms are beautifully furnished; sorry, no pets. Available May 1st. If interested, contact Michelle Trosset at m_trosset@msn.com. https://skydrive.live.com/? cid=80a8b3cb3753ba4e&id= 80A8B3CB3753BA4E!415&Bsrc= SkyMail&Bpub=SDX.SkyDrive&sc= Photos&authkey=!ADebmuEbZx8zENU

We would love to give you more information about our service opportunities in Central America and the many ways you can impact others!

Go Irish!

Greetings Members!

Thank you so much to those who donated and participated in saving lives of a child from MNT. The money has been totaled, and we officially raised $328 during the raffle at the DCYP Evening at the Gallery last Saturday!

Please take 3 minutes out of your day to view the newly updated Eliminate promotional video. I went through almost every positive emotion when watching the video, and I know you will too! If you felt the same way, please share it with those on your social media pages!

Remember, until the money gets submitted, our club is still 10th place in our division [out of 12 clubs] with fundraising. Let's keep fundraising and educating other in our lives about Eliminate!

Sincerely Your Club Coordinator,
Zaakirah Muhammad
