There are two interesting meetings coming up very soon:
ANC 6C:
Wednesday, February 13th at 7 pm is the next monthly ANC 6C meeting at 214 Mass Ave NE. Of note, the development of the former Greyhound site will be on the agenda - they are planning a large mixed-use project with apartments, office, and LOTS of retail. Possible tenants include grocery, gym, and theater along with multiple restaurants and other stores.
The Uline Arena will also be discussed, but a vote is not scheduled until our March meeting. Douglas Development is planning to start this summer on an office & retail project which will retail all of the existing structures and add a modest addition shorter than the existing arena building.
Other agenda items include The Capitol Hill Classic running race, scheduled for May 19th. This neighborhood race started 34 years ago, and the proceeds go to support the Capitol Hill Cluster schools for field trips, professional development, and other needs. If you have any opinions about this race, please let me (and the other ANC commissioners) know. I fully support this race, but I do not expect a unanimous vote in favor.
STREETCAR:
The next exciting neighborhood meeting is on Tuesday February 26th, 6:30-8:00 at Miner Elementary School (601 15th NE) to discuss progress on the H/Benning streetcar. DDOT is getting ready to start the final phase of construction for new power poles and other activities needed to start service. Mayor Gray said last week that he expects the cars to be running by the end of the year.
RETAIL:
Wells Fargo has started construction on a new branch at the corner of Patterson and FIrst NE in NoMa. This completes the retail in 1200 First Street NE. There are still plenty of other vacancies that will hopefully be filled soon - stay tuned for announcements at 90 K Street NE and Constitution Square.
Thaaja Indian Food Bar is now open at 2nd & Florida NE. They are open 11-8 Monday through Friday, with happy hour specials from 5-8 daily. They have a full bar and outdoor seating. Hopefully in the Spring they will add some weekend hours as well.
Have a great week!
