For those of you with doctoral student colleagues from developing countries, this may be of interest to them (PRB has some really great programs!). ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Snyder, Shelley <ssnyder@usaid.gov> Date: Thu, Dec 6, 2012 at 1:33 PM Subject: Fwd: Recruiting for PRB's 2013-2014 Policy Communication Fellows program To: "GH.PRH.RTU Mail List (USAID)" <gh.prh.rtumaillist@usaid.gov> Cc: Yoonjoung Choi <ychoi@usaid.gov>, Jacob Adetunji <jadetunji@usaid.gov>, "Lucas, Rachel (GH/PRH/PEC)" <rlucas@usaid.gov> December 6, 2012 Dear Colleague, I am writing to request your help in identifying candidates for PRBs annual Policy Communication Fellows program. As you will see from the attached announcement and the information below, this program is a valuable opportunity for doctoral students from developing countries who plan to work in population and related fields. The Policy Communication Fellows program provides participants with an understanding of how research can inform social policy, and a detailed knowledge of different approaches to communicating research findings to non-specialists. It begins with a two-week workshop held at PRB, during which participants learn about how research influences the policy process and how to communicate research effectively. During the 2013-2014 academic year, participants will prepare several policy-oriented written products, one of which they will present at a workshop prior to the 2014 Population Association of America (PAA) Annual Meeting. We are accepting applications from citizens of developing countries that plan to return to their home countries upon completion of their doctoral studies. Candidates accepted into the Policy Fellows program will be provided with travel, lodging, and per diem associated with the Washington and PAA workshops, PAA registration costs, as well as a $2,000 research stipend. The program is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and for this reason we can only accept candidates that come from developing countries where USAID provides population and family planning funding (visit our recruitment page online for a complete list of eligible countries). The deadline for applications is February 6, 2013. Please bring the attached announcement to the attention of prospective candidates and other departments where there might be additional candidates. The same information is also available on PRBs website under Events & Training (http://www.prb.org/EventsTraining/InternationalTraining/PolicyFellows.aspx). PRB looks forward to working with a skilled, diverse, and enthusiastic group of participants again this year. Questions about the program can be directed to my attention at: policyfellows2013@prb.org. Answers to frequently asked questions about the program can also be found online. Thank you for your help.
