Rethinking the Domestic
Featuring the work of Dr. Alanna Warner-Smith and Eva Rey

Join the Public Ethnography Lab on Tuesday, June 10 at 6pm for the first session in our new event series, the Anthropology Summer Salon. Hosted at the Georgetown Neighborhood Library, the Anthropology Summer Salon is a lecture and conversation series based on the work of early career scholars and students who use anthropological, archaeological, or ethnographic methods.
This Tuesday's session is titled Rethinking the Domestic and will feature the presentations:
-
Producing Domesticity: Irish Immigrant Women and 19th-Century Domestic Labor by Dr. Alanna Warner-Smith, Assistant Professor, Anthropology, American University
-
Chic Camo: When the U.S. Military Styled Barbie by Eva Rey, PhD Candidate, Anthropology, American University
Salons will continue bi-weekly on Tuesdays from June 10 to August 19 (6 sessions in total). Each session will have a central theme, such as food justice, cultural heritage, and social inequality, and encourages conversation between a broader audience and researchers over tea and snacks. There are still opportunities to participate, and interested researchers may submit their interest and availability using the link here. Scholars outside of the Department of Anthropology and American University are welcome to apply.
We hope you join us this summer to support the work of these scholars, and stay tuned for updates and offerings from the Public Ethnography Lab.
The Public Ethnography Lab is a new project of Dr. Thurka Sangaramoorthy within American University's Department of Anthropology. Questions? Contact Lab Coordinator, Elise Ferrer, at ef8388a@american.edu.
