Cultural Anthropologist Position Description 

 

 Cultural anthropologists study living peoples within their social settings  — their beliefs, practices, values, ideas, technologies, economies and  more. The Cultural Anthropologist will bring specialized subject matter  knowledge and expertise in the areas of human cultures and society and the  factors that contribute to beliefs, practices, values, ideas, behaviors,  motivations, perceptions and changes to these over time, particularly what  influences/stimuli can affect change.  The Cultural Anthropologist will  work with R/PPR professionals to assess the data collected by current  processes and contained in automated systems, determine the desired data  R/PPR wishes to collect, and thereafter, with the IT team to help design  the data that needs to be collected, identify data interactions and assist  with correcting current data to bring it to the desired state. The Cultural  Anthropologist may be involved with reporting and data visualization design  and similar related tasks.     

 

Qualifications  Education:            

Degree from accredited college/university in related  subject matter field  required  

 

Experience            

15+ years active, hand-on work experience in capital  planning, project  management and/or portfolio management office operations.  

 

Responsibilities  

Engage with R/PPR and other identified staff to understand data  requirements and to discern if R/PPR is collecting the right data to  produce the information needed to successfully engage in public diplomacy  activities.  Examine, analyze, and compare data currently gathered by the different R/PPR processes and systems  Compare and contrast information and provide recommendations to R/PPR on data needs, e.g. write reports and papers on findings relating how and why different groups of people behave the way they do and their scope of influence  Work with the IT team to define and implement data requirements  Work with the IT team to design reports, data visualizations and user interfaces.  

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience  

Expert knowledge of foreign country human culture and explaining why certain behaviors, beliefs, practices, values and ideas exist; ability to  identify causes of changing behaviors and relationships among individuals  and groups  "Systems thinking" - the ability to see how parts interact with the whole  (big picture thinking)  Ability to strategize, design and illustrate business data requirements  Ability to analyze and synthesize information and prepare reports and  recommendations  Ability to suggest approaches and solutions to improve R/PPR's data  collections  Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and communication (oral and written)  skills  Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others and to establish  professional working relationships  Excellent organizational skills with ability to organize and prioritize work and work independently as well as in multidisciplinary teams  Ability to complete assignments correctly and in a timely manner  Knowledge and expertise with current Microsoft Office Suite products such  as: Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint.
