ND-DC Club Football Game Watch: ND vs. New Mexico Celebrate the start of Football Season with fellow alumni, friends, and members of the ND DC Club as the Fighting Irish take on New Mexico this weekend, Saturday September 14th!   This season, we will be hosting our official game watches at two different locations: Finn McCools and The Exchange. Both locations will have food and drink specials. Kickoff is at 2:30 PM and we look forward to seeing you there. Images of the Exotic: Posters of India from the Golden Age of Travel

IMAGES OF THE EXOTIC  POSTERS OF INDIA FROM THE GOLDEN AGE OF TRAVEL Opening Reception: Thursday, September 5th, 2019 On view: September 5th - 27th, 2019   This fall, Kapoor Galleries is thrilled to present Images of the Exotic: Posters of India from the Golden Age of Travel, on view at 34 East 67th Street from September 5th to 27th, coinciding with the September edition of Asia Week New York. The exhibition will showcase an array of 20th century posters created to entice potential travelers with the mysteries of the Subcontinent, typically issued and distributed by commercial aviation companies to market their international destinations to the elite.  Ranging from the 1930's to 1970, these posters feature real world oases and monuments along with portrayals of "native" people, in the hope of accumulating interest for newly available travel routes. The images boast lush landscapes of Kashmir along with scenes of snowy northern regions like Kanchenjunga, contrasting the vast natural resources India contains with exciting urban events grounded in tradition; such as the car festival at Puri.  Other works included in the exhibition employ sculpture and architecture as an aspect of intrigue to the traveler. A print published and circulated by the Government of India depicts two Indian women on an intricate covered terrace overlooking the Taj Mahal, placing the viewer in the foreground as if they, too, were experiencing the vista on the same terrace. While the majority of these prints were designed by unidentified artists, a number can be attributed to the American artist David Klein, the Danish artist Otto Nielsen, and the Swiss artist Donald Brun.  For the extended write up and digital catalog, click here. Join DC Young Professionals at these upcoming events:

End of Summer Social

When: Sunday, September 15, 1:00-4:00 PM

Where: River Terrace Recreation Center, 350 Anacostia Ave NE, Washington DC

 

We will provide the BBQ staples (hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers) and sides. If you have something special that you want to throw on the grill, please feel free to bring it, and we can cook it up.

 

We will have some lawn games and you can enjoy an urban hike along the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail.

 

As always, all are welcome: family, friends, and colleagues. Parking is abundant along the park. It is easily accessible from the BW Parkway and a short scoot ride away from the Minnesota Avenue Metro Station. It is also across the street from the River Terrace Education Campus.
