Re: [TalkForChange:684] Club Contests

All,

Three quick items -- two contest-related, one not:

  1. I want to thank Jill, who took time out of a hectic schedule to put all of this information together for us.
  2. Second, all of the intel Jill provided is now encapsulated on the Talk For Change website here. Not only can you find this information, but you can also download a flyer related to the contests that, if so inclined, you can show to friends or colleagues who may be interested in learning more about Toastmasters.
  3. Jill and I consulted and discovered that the next dues cycle runs from April 1-September 30 (i.e., six months), so just bear that in mind as you map out your Toastmasters year.
Best,
Mark

Dear Talk for Change Members and Friends:

I'm so sorry I was unable to be at the meeting last night and give my prepared speech about Toastmaster contests ("What We Can Learn from the Groundhog").

Talk for Change will be holding our Evaluation Contest at the next meeting (February 17), and the International Speech Contest at the following meeting (March 2).  Participating in club contests is an important and fun way to fast-forward your communication skills-building!

TFC club members are eligible to participate - either as a contestant or judge.   No pre-meeting preparation is required for the Evaluation Contest.  You just show up at the meeting, listen to a "test speech," and present your evaluation.  (The judges use a form to rate the evaluations and determine the winner.)

To be a contestant in the club's International Speech Contest, you must have completed at least the first 6 speeches in the Competent Communicator manual.  Contestants prepare a 5-7 minute speech on any topic (typically with a motivational message), and the judges use a form to rate the speeches on various factors, such as organization and delivery.

Please sign up for a role on our google site:  bit.ly/tfcsignup (select the 2016 Excel sheet if it doesn't automatically come up.)  You can read the attached speech for a little more information, or contact me by email at jillvdweit@gmail.com for details.

Also note:  It's time to pay our semi-annual membership dues.  To re-up through December 2016, please bring your payment of $36 to the next meeting (or the one after next in March).
